My first 3/4 piece sees some action
I bought a cheapie 3/4 hairpiece…
What propelled me was that every now and then I like really long and lush hair for an outing. So I visited my local costume store which specializes not so much in realistic hair as in over-the-top party hair, ranging anywheres from drag-queen to hootchie mama supreme. Naturally I found some pretty long extensions there! I chose a simple 3/4 with some blended highlights that reaches to my shoulder blades. Matching my hair was an extreme challenge. I haven’t bothered to color my bio-hair lately so it is a mess of colors at the moment, but the 3/4 I chose was actually a decent blend. By the way, I have no idea who manufactures this 3/4 wig - there was a tag that said Trinity on it but my online searches have produced nothing… Nonetheless it served its purpose for the night. It was kind of funny actually. A few people expressed not having seen me for awhile, which made me wonder if they thought my hair had grown out in record time. Others complimented and what not.
Only one really scrutinized and naturally (or not so much so) I claimed extensions, teeheehee. So what were the downsides? Well a 3/4 attaches with 2 huge gnarly combs front and back, and my, was I ever conscious of those suckers yanking at my hair all night. And I did sacrifice some follicles disentangling the combs from my beleaguered hair at the end of the night. So wearing these things on a regular basis are not quite practical. Also, there was that annoying bump line on top delineating the 3/4 hair from my own, and no way do I possess lush enough bio-hair to completely cover and camoflauge that area - heck no. I wimped out and wore a headband instead which made me look a tad more retro rather than bombshell. Still the illusion was a good one - a wide headband had the added advantage of visually ameliorating the color difference between my front hair and the 3/4’s hair color. I do believe getting the 3/4 made me understand a bit better how a topper might so a similar effective job, with less strain. For those of you who are considering a wig, you might pursue a 3/4 wig in the short-term just because they are rather affordable and seem to be more available as quickie hair accessories used by a number of women I know. You’ll observe many actresses donning these that’s for sure!
