Shear Genius: Cuttin’ Up with the RHOOC

June 30th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Nicole with Jeana Keough

Excerpted from the Orange County Register:

In Wednesday's episode, the housewives and their daughters will be clients in an elimination challenge. Vicki Gunvalson, Jeana Keough, Lauri Waring, Tammy Knickerbocker, Tamra Barney and former housewife Kimberly Bryant are reported to be participants. Their daughters Briana, Kara, Ashley, McKenzie, Megan and Lindsey are said to be on the show as well.

"Some of the girls liked their hair, and the other girls were in tears," said housewife Jeana Keough. "They had to go get their hair fixed (afterward). I wanted to be on the show for fun. But it was a major cut job for me. I had to go get extensions (afterward)."

Keough said the episode was shot in April on a set in Burbank made to look like a hair salon. A limousine picked up the ladies from their homes in Orange County and took them to and from the studio. Keough's daughter Kara was flown in from Berkeley, where she's attending college.

"When you cut somebody's hair, it's traumatic," Jeana Keough said. "There's very dramatic things happening" on the show.

Keough would not say who won the challenge, but she did say that there are some fascinating personalities on the series.

"Some of them were really characters (pot..meet kettle)– over the top, crazy, fun," she said. "One of the haircutters said to Kimberly, 'Go change. You look like an Orange County housewife.'"

Tabatha Coffey, last season's fan favorite, is the guest judge.

Wednesday, on Bravo.

Go Boho. Feel sexy with a free-spirited style.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
Celebrities; Sienna Miller, Kate Hudson, and Mary-Kate Olsen effortlessly pull off the hippie-chic look.

Bohemian chic is the perfect summer style for longer hair.  Let your hair follow the nonconforming fashion trends this season by going Boho.

To create a natural look of your own, hair needs to be clean, slightly damp, and un-brushed.  The best time to create this style is after washing so that your hair dries and sits naturally.  Flip your hair upside down and apply a styling product like volumizing mousse from scalp to ends.  Flip your hair back again and let it fall/part naturally as you gently scrunch and lift around the crown of the head and the tips.

Bohemians are usually creative and artsy; so finish the look with your own flare by adding random braids, twists, or vintage accessories. Don’t forget Boho style is all about nature, ease and noncomformity.

It doesn’t have to be perfect and it should be fun!

Bed Head

Telling that special someone, it’s not all yours.

Photobucket

Don’t laugh.  Whether your extensions create more volume or give you that extra length; there comes a point in every relationship where you might need to have “the talk.”

When? For new wearers this is a frequently asked question. Within days of getting the extended locks they naturally feel like your own.  You are comfortable and confident leaving those around you, including your partner, clueless to the makeup of your gorgeous “do”.  However, one day, maybe soon, in a moment of spontaneous intimacy… hands will run through your gorgeous head of hair to perhaps notice the tiny bead-bonds holding it securely to your own.

This might feel strange and unexpected to the inexperienced.  So pre-mentioning the additional hair and giving your significant other a heads up is recommended.  You’ll realize this conversation can turn into a learning opportunity, your now educated partner appreciates and understands your beauty secret.

With hair extensions becoming more common, affordable, and accepted, perhaps one day this kind of “pillow talk” will be unnecessary and nonexistent for those of us with lucious locks.

SPF for your hair?

June 26th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Beauty, Hair Tips & Tricks, Style, summer hair

She Knows author Kori Ellis summarizes the best summer tips for protecting your hair from those harmful (but wonderful) sun rays. From covering with a scarf, to creams and products with spf included, she gives a quick and dirty (dirty is good according to the author) breakdown to summer hair.

Here’s a blurb - click here for the full article.

While the lazy days on the beach and relaxing in the sun may feel like paradise to you, your hair may not share your view on the matter. The salty water, wind and sand may turn your hair into a tiny disaster. But don’t panic — it’s all solvable.

Thankfully, today there are plenty of products to protect both your hair and scalp from the sharp and harmful UV rays.

Scarf it up
The best protection is a cute and trendy scarf or hat. Like this, your hair is protected all the way — and you don’t have to worry about your scalp getting burned.

Cream it in
If you want the freedom of letting your hair loose, you should consider putting some leave-in conditioner on before you head off to the beach.

Shear Genius: The "Deep" End of the Oshun

June 26th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Season 2 of Shear Genius premiered on  Bravo  last night.

In the season premiere, 12 stylists are tested by the judges in what promises to be an interesting season.

The first two challenges sucked...big time.

Would you let Stevie Wonder cut your hair?  Yes, the first test was a blindfold challenge.  The 12 victims, er, I mean models, had to let the stylists cut their hair blindfolded.  One of the stylists ....names are not quite straight yet, cut himself during the challenge, and tells the client "he doesn't have anything", which will be grist for the mill at the gay websites for days.

Charlie      Dee       Gail         Glenn      Matt

Nekisa    Meredith    Nicole    Oshun    Parker      Paul

Dee, a much better-looking woman on television than in the Bravo photographs, wins the challenge and immunity from elimination.  Oshun loses it. You can tell by the look on his face that he does not take criticism well.  In fact, he really got the loser's edit. You knew, from this first challenge, he would be going home first.

The Elimination Challenge:

The contestants are ranked in order and are allowed to choose their models. Dee, as the winner, chooses first, Oshun chooses last.  His model has thin, fine hair, very hard to work with.

Characters to emulate/interpret include Marge Simpson, Wilma Flintstone and Lucy from Peanuts.

Charlie uses blue hair extensions to emulate Marge Simpson.  Daniel wins the challenge.   Oshun again loses the challenge, and is eliminated, muttering "this is bullshit" on his way out.  To see his exit interview (and a bunch of commercials) go to http://www.bravotv.com/Shear_Genius/season/2//index.php

Next Week :

WTF?  Will Bravo ever stop pimping out The Real Housewives of Orange County? These botoxed Barbie's will definitely give the stylists a run.  Will Vicki howl?  Will Lauri Waring Peterson's  face move?    Stay tuned.

Looking after your nails

June 25th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Taking care of your fingernails is important, but that covers only half the nail care that you need. Looking after your toenails is also equally important. You need a pedicure for that. A pedicure is similar to a manicure; however, instead of treating your fingernails a pedicure treats your toenails. There are three basic parts to a pedicure: cleansing, maintenance and polishing. Make sure that you take extra precautions to protect yourself from bacterial and fungal infections by using antibacterial soap and antiseptic. You should trim your toenails straight across to avoid ingrown toenails.

Alooks Salon is a beauty salon and spa which offers pedicure services. They provide classic pedicure, spa pedicures, acrylic fills for both men and women, and the services are affordably priced between $5 and $30. This salon in downtown San Jose offers a lot more services including manicures, hair extensions, waxing, evening makeup, application, haircuts and styling, hair and nail design, eyelash and brow color, traditional Thai massage, etc. Alooks also offers hair products for men, skincare products, hairstyling products, and other salon supplies.

A pedicure can help to avert nail diseases and nail disorders. Pedicures not only look after toenails, but the dead cells which are present on the bottom of the feet get rubbed off using a pumice stone to make your feet more hygienic and clean. For a great salon experience and a relaxing pedicure, Alooks Salon is the best place you can go to.
