Jazz work out 8-inch hair extension deal for Williams.

Salt Lake City-On Friday, the Utah Jazz took Williams to the team salon, announcing that the star point guard would get hair extensions.

The length of the extensions was not disclosed, but according to the Salt Lake Examiner, Williams agreed to an eight-inch piece with an option for a ten-inch piece next season.

While the precise value of the fake hair will not be known, the Examiner reported that the Jazz will pay nearly $50 million for the first eight inches and as much as $70 million if he exercises the ten inch option next year. The 24-year-old would not be eligible for more hair until 2012 at the earliest.

“Continuing to have the best hair on the Jazz is exactly what I want to do,” Williams said Friday. “I am confident in the way I look and really like the way it feels on my shoulders. We all want to look our best, don’t we?”

Taken third overall in the 2005 draft by the Jazz, Williams recently purchased a hair salon in the area and has spent most of the summer in with his stylist.

“My wife, Amy, and I really enjoy having long hair and look forward to continue to have long hair,” he added.

After more than two weeks of negotiations, the Jazz completed the hair deal two days before Williams leaves for Las Vegas to join the Olympic squad. Last month, he was one of 12 players selected to the NBA “All Hair” team, which will compete in the Beijing Hair Olympics next month.

“Deron is the cornerstone of what we have building, and he is a significant part of our foundation for the future,” said Steve Nash, Player-Coach of the USA Hair Generals.

Williams declined to add a twelve inch extension - the maximum allowable - and opted instead to follow in the footsteps of fellow stars, Steve Nash, Dirk Nivitski, and Dennis Rodman who all had shorter extensions to allow themselves flexibility to pull it back into a tight pony, or cover most if it with a hat.

Williams and Chris Paul have been linked as two rising-star point guards in the league. Paul added a similar hair extension earlier this summer.

But while Paul finished second in voting for the NBA’s Best Hair Award last season, Williams has yet to be officially recognized for his hair do despite being recently selected as a member of the All-Hair team.

Hair Extensions - How They Are Applied And The Methods Used

July 19th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Hair extensions were first practised back in the 1980’s, but were cast aside until recent years due to a lack of developed methods. They are actually pieces of hair that can be attached to your natural hair or scalp and they add to the thickness of your hair or the length.  Understanding a little about hair extensions could spare you time and cash, particularly with all the various styles and fashions available in recent times.   Just about everybody prefers natural human extensions as they're generally easier to take care of than others out there.

They come in all kinds of varieties and can be pre-coloured, pre-highlighted or pre-permed with curls or a body wave. Depending on the method of applying them, you may need to have your hair extension re-applied after six or eight weeks, or they might last up to four months. Re-attaching is generally required because our natural hair continues to grow, the bonding agent becomes loose, life happens, and you’ll need to re-adjust and maintain your hair’s appearance.

Hair extensions can be applied in a variety of ways depending on your needs and budget.   For a fun, inexpensive, and temporary change of style, consider clip in extensions. These can be bought from most hair extensions shops or online stores.  Ponytail extensions are popular choices in clip-ins. Though clip-ins are generally not available in subtle colour variations, they can still be purchased in the common shades.

There are a few things you can do to get the most out of your hair extensions.  They can be shampooed, styled and brushed the same as your natural hair, but don’t try to alter their colour. This should be done professionally.  The most important thing is to be gentle with it so as to increase the life of the bond attaching it and use a soft bristle brush, to brush out tangles from the bottom ends up towards your head.  At night, to avoid matting, tie it up or braid it if it’s fairly long,  and never sleep with wet or damp hair.  Avoid using any silicone-based products or conditioners on the extension where it is bonded to your natural hair, as this will make the bond slip off.

In the society that we live in today it has become second nature to plug a hairdryer, straightener or curling tongs in as part of our daily routine but can these appliances still be used on hair extensions? If your extensions are made from real hair then the answer is, yes you can! However if you are using synthetic hair you shouldn't be using straightening irons or curling tongs as they can damage the extensions.  With regards to the frequency of having hair extensions fitted then providing that your extensions are applied and removed correctly, meaning no damage has been done then you can have your new extensions applied the same day your old ones come out.  It is still advisable though, that you give your hair a break once in a while.

8 Hair Extension Tips to Live By

July 16th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Hair Extension Style, Hair Extensions, Hair Tips & Tricks

1) Can we talk? Absolutely be sure to have a sit-down, thorough consultation BEFORE you show up for your hair appointment. It’s a real change in your day to day hair care, and it is a lengthy process. You should budget 45 minutes in which to learn from your stylist (or explain if you are the stylist) how the extensions will under the hair, how the hair will be cut and styled, how it will feel and certainly long term maintenance.

2) Style: After your consultation, or during, make certain your stylist/operator knows how you will style your hair from day to day so they can fit the extensions to suit your needs. If this is not taken in to account, your styling of their extension installation could be unnatural and unflattering.

3) Put your head to bed: Hair extensions can go wonky overnight so it is good practice to put it up at night.

4) Brush, Brush, Brush: Look out for small cylindrical brushes and choose instead the big fatties (you know the ones - wide paddles) You could always try Tangle Teezer (www.hqhair.com) to gently pull out knots if things go awry.

5) Match, don’t Mix: Have your stylist help you match up the texture of the extension (beyond curly/straight) with your own hair, and not just the color, as this will make it easier to style down the road.

*Also, it’s always a good idea to have the stylist double check that your hair is actually the type you ordered - we’ve heard stories of people having “straight” hair put in and then upon first wash it turns out it’s actually curly hair that’s been straightened! Not good.

6) There’s the rub: Shampooing is critical for hair sheen, and overall health (and hygene!) but be sure to take it easy on those dangling strands. Don’t over-rub, or rub too intensely as you can damage or knot the extensions. Try massaging from top to bottom like you might a horses tail. We promise you can still have the herbal essence experience with extensions, just take it easy.

7) Oil! Be sure your products aren’t too oily, as this can cause extensions to slip. Conditioner is included in the list, and be sure to condition from the middle of the extension down to the ends, not at the root.

8) Gimme a Break! Be sure to give your scalp and your hair a rest between extensions. There are long term risks to using extensions too often without appropriate recuperating periods. We suggest a 3-6 month extension free hiatus to ensure hair strength and health. It’s always a good idea to have your scalp treated during that resting period too - all things in moderation right?

How to avoid split ends

July 16th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Split ends are caused by overuse of heated appliances and over exposure to the sun which results in extremely dry and damaged hair. Once you get split ends there are no solutions to repair it except trimming the ends. However there are lots of preventive cares you can take to avoid split ends.

Things you can do to avoid split ends –

- Don't brush hair when it's wet, because that's when it’s most delicate and susceptible to damage.

- Cut down on hair dryers, crimpers, curling irons, straightening irons and hot curlers.

- Use only natural-bristle hairbrushes.

- Use covered or coated rubber bands

- Wear hat or scarf to minimize sun damage when outdoors and wear a cap while swimming to avoid the harmful effect of chlorine.

- Condition your hair after every shampoo and deep condition at least once a month.

- Use shampoos that have sunscreen and moisturizers.

- Split repair products cannot remove split ends but just minimize the frizzy look

- Get a trim every six weeks.

The Interweb–Extensions.com

July 14th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Today we mark the first entry of what will be many about fake hair on the interweb and extensions.com. Extensions.com is a webiste that has an extremely large selection of upper-level fake hair products. Today we will be examining one specific product: The Clip-In Color extension.

The Clip-In Color fake hair is 16 inches long, and comes in a variety of colors, including pink (shown above), blue, red, purple, black, blonde and more intricate colors like golden blonde with a hint of red. Now, these extension can be assumed to be of a high quality because they are made out of real human hair. Though that does give these extensions a little bit more of an ick-factor (it's a little creepy to be wearing someone else's hair) it does mean that they won't have quite the same problems that synthetic fake hair has.

The photo on extensions.com gives an accurate example of the type of person that would be most interested in these hair extensions:

AKA, girls that still shop at Hot Topic, emo girls, etc. Some more examples of girls that might be wearing these hair extensions:

This girl from a google image search for "emo girls with fake hair" is probably wearing fake hair from extensions.com.

This girl is also probably wearing fake hair.

I could not find any pictures on the internet, but you might remember that Gwen Stefani had similar hair styles way back in the day, like in the Ex-Girlfriend and Go videos.

Clip-On Color fake hair costs $7.92 or something from extensions.com. They are generally not recommended unless you want to look like an emo idiot.
