An extended lesson

It's Friday and Alice has had the extensions in nearly a week.

This is what I've learned from watching, listening and living with my daughter:

• they look like real hair if you stand at least two feet away and
• they look more realistic if worn with a headband, and
• they look even more realistic if they are a good match for your natural hair, BUT
• they itch
• they make the top of your head feel like a lumpy carpet
• they may come out if the glue doesn't hold, or if you move them up a lot while you're trying to get the hair off your neck while you play sports
• the glue to stick them back on your head costs about 1/4 ($1.50) of what it does for the stuff to remove them ($5.50), AND
• the process to remove the glue that sits close to your scalp is time consuming. (With a q-tip, tissues and a comb last night I displayed the grooming behavior of a mother gorilla as I carefully applied the remover oil to some bits of glue and combed out the goo).

Interesting thing, this fake hair business. Beauty is a sticky business.
