How to Get Rid of Nail Polish Stains

October 15th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Nail Polish Removal from Cloth

Before using any of the methods outlined below, first test the process on a hidden or inconspicuous area to make sure they don't damage or discolor the fabric you're cleaning. Also, don't put the stained clothing through the dryer until the stain has been removed!

For leathers and suedes:
This is something you can attempt yourself, but you stand a good chance of ruining/marking the material - if it's expensive, consider bringing it to a professional cleaner. Leather is porous and there's not many chemicals you can use on it so the DIY methods involve removing the top layer of the leather along with the stain. Be very careful.

1. Using a blunt edge (like that of a non-serrated butter knife or spoon), gently scrape up any excess from the surface.

2. Gently rub the stain with a gum eraser (a light, abrasive block).

3. If that fails, step it up and use an emery board.

4. If that fails, step it up to fine-grade sandpaper.

For vinyl:
Unfortunately, nail polish usually ruins these materials. You can remove the bulk of the stain, but it will likely leave discoloration.

1. Using a blunt edge (like that of a non-serrated butter knife or spoon), gently scrape up any excess from the surface .

2. Using a clean, paper towel dipped in acetate, dab the area until the stain starts lifting.

3. When the stain stops fading, rinse it well with water.

For most other materials:

Method 1: Hair Spray

1. Using a blunt edge (like that of a non-serrated butter knife or spoon), gently scrape up any excess from the surface .

2. Saturate the dried nail polish with hair spray and let it sit for a few minutes.

3. Gently scrub the stain with a soft-bristled toothbrush until the bulk of the stain has been loosened/removed. Then blot as much up as you can.

4. Apply a spot-cleaner/stain stick to the remaining stain, following the directions on the bottle, and then launder normally.

Method 2: OxyClean

1. Using a blunt edge (like that of a non-serrated butter knife or spoon), gently scrape up any excess from the surface .

2. Make an OxyClean paste by adding just a tiny bit of water to a about a teaspoon or two of OxyClean powder.

3. Cover the stain with the paste, saturating it and allow it to sit for about 10 minutes.

4. Gently scrub the stain with a soft-bristled toothbrush until the stain has diminished.

5. Re-saturate the stain with more paste and allow it dry.

6. Launder the item normally.

Method 3: Acetone

1. Using a blunt edge (like that of a non-serrated butter knife or spoon), gently scrape up any excess from the surface .

2. Saturate the stain with an acetone solution (either acetone based nail polish remover or acetone from your local hardware store) and allow it to soak for a few minutes.

3. Gently dab the stained area with a clean, dry, white towel (paper towels are fine).

4. Continue dabbing until the stain no longer lifts, then hold the fabric underneath a faucet and flush cold water through the back side of the stain.

5. Repeate steps 2-4 until the stain is gone.

Art of applying nail polish

October 15th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Nails look beautiful and very attractive with nail polish. You can set a style statement by the way you apply nail polish and with the choice of colors. There is a wide array of nail polish available in the stores these days and new shades are launched every fashion season. You need to select the right one to match your dress, personality and the occasion. It is also important to match the color of your nail polish to your skin tone. Follow your personality and style but also make sure if you are attending a business meeting then its better to stick to pale neutral or pastel shades and if it’s a party or a fun evening outing then you can go in for darker, louder shades.

To apply nail polish perfectly you need to learn the art by practice and patience.Pay attention to details and you will not end up with messy nails. You are not just painting your nails but you are going to make them look attractive in the process. The first step before the application would be to remove all traces of old nail polish off your nails. Use a nail polish remover with built-in moisturizer as nail polish tends to have a drying effect. After using remover, clean your hands properly and you can use cream too on hands but do not use cream just before applying nail polish. First apply a thin base coat, let it dry and then apply in the center of the nail from base to tip, and then make one stroke from the base of the nail to the top end of the nail without touching skin. Apply second coat of the nail color to have the desired effect only after first coat dries up completely. Do not touch it with finger to check it.

Hair is one thing that most of us have, and the one thing we cherish. How you keep your hair is probably the easiest way in which to judge how much you actually care about your external personality, and whether you are actually bothered about it or not. A persons hair is one of their greatest assets when it comes to their appearance. Your hair is one of your most significant possessions, and it would definitely not be wrong to say that it is actually a great resource - one that you can shape according to your mood and style, and is highly flexible in nature. You would be wise to consult a hair stylist regarding which hairstyle would suit you best, and which would enhance the beauty of your more attractive features, and tone down the ones which are less attractive, in order to make your face look even more striking.

Dry hair can have a direct effect on how your every day hair style can look. Normal secretion allows for the "coating" of the follicle shaft with oil that enhances growth, protection and health. Dry indoor air is bad for dry hair so when it's winter counteract the standard low-moisture environment with a humidifier. If the humidifier is located in the bedroom, your hair can benefit from 8 hours of added moisture every night. Keep in mind that the greatest dry hair treatment is to cut back on the hot styling tools, buy a conditioner and shampoo made for dry and damaged hair, and to make sure you get a trim at least once every two months. If you use a blow dryer, use it on a low and cool setting and make sure you stop before your hair is completely dry.

Long hair styles are adorned by many woman, and can be worn in many different ways. Long hair styles done right can make you look and feel ten years younger. Many women opt for an up do when it comes to formal long hair styles. Most long hair wearers feel like it is easier to care for when it is long. Being able to pull it back into a ponytail or just pinning it back in a clip makes having long hair easy to style. Today's generation of females have many different long hairstyles they can choose from.  A quick way to get longer, thicker hair is to get human hair extensions fitted.  Hair extensions are a great choice when you want to lengthen your own real hair, but still require you to look after them.  Here are some great tips and advice on how to care for your hair extensions.

Sandwiched and glued

October 13th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

For those of us in the sandwich generation, yesterday was a typical day. OK, maybe not completely typical but the essence was there. At 11:30 in the morning I was combing my mother's hair and at 11:30 at night I was doing something similar for my daughter. Caregiving for two generations in a single day: the motto of the middle aged woman (usually a woman, not always).

I was in Florida over the weekend, visiting my 84 year old mother in her nursing facility. She has dementia and has been in their care for the last couple years since my dad passed away. It's an excellent facility and she receives excellent care. At this point, it is a familiar, loving setting and we (my brothers and I) find it preferable to a move elsewhere. These trips are always very emotional in many ways, but the positives dominate, and it is a trip that I take more out of love than responsibility.

There's tons more to say of course, but for now I'll dwell on one of my mother's and my usual activities: eating lunch with an old friend of my parent's at the main dining room building. Mom's facility is part of a continuing care retirement community: primarily independent living homes and apartments, but with assisted living and skilled nursing when it becomes necessary. The situation is exactly as my father envisioned: a place for my mother to go when he died first. So the main building contains a large dining room where the whole community, mostly able bodied seniors eat. It's a major trip for my Mom to eat there. A reason for her to put on lipstick. And for me to brush her hair. She's doesn't really know why the lipstick and the brush, and I'm dressing her up probably more for the custom and diners' expectations than for her. But she doesn't say no. And I do enjoy this chance to be close.

She looks great, eats well, and I enjoy the company of old friends.

Flash ahead twelve hours, and 900 miles: I'm back in St. Paul. And the good news is that Alice has taken out the extensions. The bad news is that her hair and scalp are covered with a month's worth of petrified glue from regular regluing. She's supposed to do a photo shoot tomorrow and at the very least she needs to go to school with her hair approximating normal, so the glue must come out. Yeeccch! What a horrible, nasty job. We dab on the remover oil all over, get out a couple combs and gently, steadily go at it.

Because it's a school night we can't do this forever (though there's enough to do that we could), so we stop after 3 hours. We stop after creating a small pile of clumps of hair and glue, oily, sticky combs, half a box of used tissues and Q-tips, Alice with a sore head and me with strained eyes. But that's the kind of day we sandwiched women have:.

We remind our mothers of their past beauty, and support our growing daughters in discovering theirs.

Hair loss remedy

October 13th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Are you suffering from hair loss and wondering what to do to stop it? Firstly check the cause that might have caused your hair loss problem. There are many causes for hair loss– environmental condition, bad nutrition, improper maintenance and use of wrong products etc. You need to take remedial steps after identifying the cause of your hair loss.

Check if you are getting enough protein in your daily diet. Protein rich foods are a must in your daily diet like dairy products such as soya, nuts, grains, fish, poultry and lean meats. Avoid diets that ask you to exclude carbohydrates from your food as these are essential sources of energy and contain Vitamin B which helps in the growth of hair. Foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, brown rice and potatoes are all good sources of healthy carbohydrates. You should also have sufficient intake of Amino acids for healthy hair growth. Avoid junk food and highly processed food. Eat a variety of food and maintain a balanced diet. Factors such as age, health, sex and the level of physical activity should be taken into account when deciding on the right nutritional balance. Check if environmental pollution and weather conditions are affecting your hair. Ensure the products you use on your hair are mild and gentle. Wash your hair regularly and keep your scalp clean.

Honey for you skin and hair

October 8th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Honey has been known for many centuries for its unique qualities either as a food, medicinal or cosmetic ingredient. As far as beauty is concerned ancient legend speaks of Cleopatra’s well-known milk and honey baths and for many years women have used Honey on face, skin and hair to keep the skin youthful and have healthy hair.

Due to various factors such as pollution, ageing, stress and chemicals your skin loses its ability to retain water due to which it becomes dry and appears wrinkled. You need to keep your skin well hydrated so that it can retain its softness and elasticity. Honey is a natural moisturizer. Honey is a humectant, which means it attracts and retains water. This is the reason why you would find honey as an ingredient in many moisturizing products such as cleansers, creams, shampoos and conditioners. Honey is very mild and does not irritate your skin, so it is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin and baby skin.

Make use of the goodness of honey to enhance your beauty at home and if you would like to get a pampered beauty or hair treatment then visit Shangri-La Lotus which is a full service Spa Beauty Salon dedicated to the pursuit of customer friendly, efficient and professional service. Hair Care Procedures

October 6th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

All of us would like to have healthy beautiful hair, but many of us are plagued by various hair problems. In order to keep your hair healthy, follow the basic procedure of hair care. This includes head massaging, hair brushing, shampooing, rinsing, conditioning and drying.

  • Head massaging – You can massage your own scalp with your fingertips in circular movements. Do it gently. It will help improve blood circulation.
  • Hair brushing – Regular brushing is good for your hair as it stimulates your hair follicles. Use a good quality brush with rounded bristles. You can brush daily before your bath and also before shampooing but never brush your hair when it is wet as it is prone to breakage.
  • Shampooing – If you like to shampoo your hair daily choose a mild shampoo. Otherwise select a shampoo that best suits your hair. Never pour shampoo directly on your hair. First wet the hair thoroughly with warm water, take a little shampoo on your palms and mix with equal quantity of water and rub into hair till you get a thick froth.
  • Rinsing – It is very important to rinse all traces of shampoo from your hair. Rinse twice or thrice and it’s good to have the last rinse with cold water.
  • Conditioning - Regular conditioning is good for your hair and it keeps it well moisturized, keeps your hair shiny and helps in reducing hair breakage. For extremely dry hair you can try a leave in conditioner.
  • Drying – Don’t over use hair dryers and try to dry your hair naturally as often as possible. Always use a soft towel and just blot and dry and don’t rub vigorously.

Treat your hair gently and bring back the body and bounce to your hair and maintain it well. For all your hair care needs visit Shangri-La Lotus that is a full service Spa Beauty Salon dedicated to the pursuit of customer friendly, efficient and professional service. Beautiful Hair with Balmain Hair Extensions

October 2nd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Balmain Hair extensions offer such beautiful results.  Balmain Hair extensions can provide immediate length of hair and great haircolor results.

Balmain Hair Extensions are applied to such a small section of your own hair, that the end result is so real looking that.......seeing is believing.

Balmain Hair Extension hair is 100% real.  Balmain Hair Extensions come in a variety of lengths, color, textures and accessories.

The blend of colors and the Balmain Hair Extensions "seamlessly" blend into your own hair.  The Balmain Hair extensions will be undetectable.

The quality of Balmain Hair Extensions hair and the selection of colors just give way to endless creative options.

There are extremely practical uses for Balmain Hair Extensions, too. Balmain Hair Extensions can be added for some volume and for added thickness without extending your length.

Creative highlights and deeper colors can be added or alternated.  In the above photo, you can see what is called a "continuous" row of Balmain Hair Extensions.  This type of row will add thickness and bulk.  With the sections being very small, the extensions will behave like your own hair.

The Balmain Hair Extensions are gently attached to your own natural hair.  As your hair grows, the Balmain Hair Extensions will grow out with your own natural hair.  Balmain Hair Extensions can last up to 3 to 4 months depending on home maintenance and lifestyle.

The benefit to opting for Balmain Hair Extensions is that the hair is reusable.  What this means is that when the extensions have "grown out" and it is time for them to be removed...........you don't have to buy new hair.  The Balmain Hair Extensions Artist will be able to remove your extensions, section by section and then reapply.

It takes approximately 3-4.5 hours to have a full set of Balmain Extensions applied.  That is a short amount of time to achieve the results that you may want NOW!
