Britney Spears on The X Factor

November 30th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Right then, here’s my opinion on Britney’s guest performance on The X Factor last night. She was SHIT. Imagine coming on to the show and miming when the whole point of the programme is to show off your talents to maximum effect! I was mortified for her, I really was.

The only difference between that last night, and her disastrous performance at the VMA’s last year was one thing. Strutting. She strutted about the stage last night, proving to us all that the only thing she can do beter than last year is walk in a straight line in a determined manner.

See her ‘new look’? It’s a poor man’s Madonna look. Here’s the proof on Perez Hilton, photo taken at her performance in Germany a few days ago -

Now, I know she didn’t have that daft wee top hat on last night, but the rest - same look. Which leads me on to the most important point I have about Britney. Surely she can afford proper hair extensions? Every time I see her now, my first task is to examine her hair so that I can see where her real hair stops and her rats tails hair extensions start. It usually takes me about 2 seconds. Then that’s all I can think about. It’s like a wee challenge I give myself - see how much her hair has grown back in. Check her out below, they are shockingly bad -

Oh, and when Dermot spoke to her she churned out the same answers she always does. I don’t think she even knew she was on The X Factor. Apparently she didn’t even watch the show. I bet they’ve got her medicted to within an inch of her life!

Do You Know These Important Do’s And Don’ts? - Nail Care Tips

November 28th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Applying the nail care tips below will help you maintain your fingernails in prime condition.

As our fingernails are so noticeable and convey a message about us to everyone we meet, it is essential we take just a little time and educate ourselves on how to care for them well.

What follows is a list of nail care tips divided into do’s and don’ts:

Nail Care Tips: The DO’S

DO drink plenty of water each day. It’s good for your general health and a well hydrated body contributes to healthy nails. Cracked nails may indicate the need for greater fluid intake.

DO apply varnish remover before applying nail polish. This removes any grease on the surface of the nail and gives extra life to the nail polish, so make sure you do this regardless of whether there is old polish on your nails or not.

DO take vitamin supplements unless your doctor advises otherwise due to other health considerations. Vitamins A, C, E, and B12 are especially important. Additionally, calcium, zinc, iron, protein, and folic acid will help avoid white marks appearing on the nails and prevent nails from becoming brittle. Research the foods you need to provide you with these essential vitamins and supplements.

DO use a good quality buffer preferably once a week, no more than twice a week. Be sure not to buff too vigorously and not for too long to avoid damaging the nail. Just a brief gentle buff before applying nail polish can help prevent the polish from peeling due to a rough or uneven surface on the nail.

DO use a soft nail file rather than an emery board. Emery boards can be too rough and damage the nail easily unless used with great care. Better to use a soft cushion nail file and wash it regularly for repeated use. It almost goes without saying, metal nail files are a definite NO NO!

DO wear protective gloves when doing any work that requires the hands to be submerged in water or come in contact with chemicals. Preferably use gloves with a cotton lining so they remain dry inside. Fungus loves a moist environment.

DO give attention to the cuticles regularly, using a moisturizing cream often to avoid the cuticles from drying out. Overgrown and ungroomed cuticles can adversely affect nail growth.

Nail Care Tips: The DON’TS

DON’T file backwards and forwards as this can cause splits in the nails which become even worse if water penetrates after hand washing. Rather use a gentle one way stroking action with the file along with a little patience.

DON’T file the corners of the nail as this can weaken them and make them more susceptible to breaking. File straight across in a way that produces a soft, oval shape. Pointed nails break easily.

DON’T file nails when they are wet. Make sure they are completely dry.

DON’T use varnish remover and reapply nail polish more than once or twice a week. Preferably select a varnish remover that contains moisturizers to avoid the nails drying out.

DON’T use your nails to scratch hard surfaces, pick at an object, remove staples, or serve as a digging tool. Just take a minute to get a proper tool for the job and avoid sacrificing your nails!

DON’T over manicure the cuticles as this can damage them causing them to thicken and overgrow.

DON’T ever cut the cuticles or use metal or sharp objects to push them back. Purchase the proper tool for the job, an Orange Stick. Hold it at an angle and gently push the cuticles back without damaging them. Using a cuticle remover first will help make the job easier and avoid damaging this sensitive skin.

After a nail care session, conduct a little test. To see how smooth your nails really are run them down an old pair of tights or pantyhose. Any snags will help you locate the nail that needs further attention.

The nail care tips listed above require some time and effort and perhaps initially a small investment to obtain the necessary professional tools. However, once you have them and get into a nail care routine, the benefits will make it all worthwhile.

All About Hair Extensions

November 28th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

“The speed of hair growth is roughly 1.25 centimeters or 0.5 inches per month, being about 15 centimeters or 6 inches per year. With age the speed of hairgrowth might slow down to as little as 0.25 cm or 0.1 inch a month.”

That’s an awful long time to wait to change your look. The alternative is simple. Hair extensions. With extensions you can instantly transform the length, style, and color of your hair. Hair extensions have come a long way and are now wildly popular with millions of women around the world. With so many different options, however, it can be difficult to find the right extensions for you. We’ve created this post to help you better understand these options so you can save yourself time and money by making the right choice the first time around.

What are hair extensions made of?

Hair extensions can be made from a variety of materials. They can be 100% human hair or 100% synthetic. Some extensions are made with a combination of the two.

Human hair is usually graded on its ethnic origin. “Virgin” hair is unprocessed hair. The best suppliers of this variety are from Asian countries, China and India usually. Another variety is “Remy” hair, which usually comes from European countries. Remy hair still has the cuticle in tact and running in a single direction. This prevents tangling and gives the hair a more natural look and feel. Many consider Remy hair to be a premium variety and so it tends to be expensive. An advantage to human hair is that you can treat it the way you would your own, natural hair. This allows for greater flexibility in style as it can be heated, and curled without worry

Synthetic hair is made of synthetic fibers and is usually cheaper than human hair. Because of the variety of materials used to make these extensions, their quality can vary greatly. Some synthetic extensions look and feel as great as some of the premium varieties. You may want to check with the manufacturer before you try curling or straightening it.

How are hair extensions applied and removed?

Hair extensions have recently received a lot of bad press. The antiquated method of attachment uses a glue (hard bond). These bonds worked well except when removing the extensions, the chemicals would ruin the hair by making it limp, eventually causing hair breakage. Some people are sensitive to the glue used and have reported that it can burn. This method also requires a certain level of commitment. It takes a long time to apply extensions in this fashion and once they’re glued in, well… they’re glued in.

The current hair extensions in the “At home” market are clip on ponytail attachments, weft line attachments which need to be sewn into the hair, wigs and half wigs. These are popular due to the inexpensive costs related to the hair extensions. These types of hair extensions do not look as good as single strand systems and they have been known to fall out unexpectedly. The clips usually have tiny sharp metal teeth that cling to the hair, sometimes ripping it when you take them out.

Recently, a company called Quick Lengths has come up with a revolutionary, new application system that needs no glues or crimping. They have developed what they call the “quick link” which is a pressure lock system that can be applied or removed in seconds without damage… even at home. Traditional hair extensions do not allow a single strand hair extension to be moved after being applied. Quick Lengths‘ system allows a person to move the hair extensions in, out, and around their head to achieve the desired length, body, fullness, and/or highlights. They offer “do it yourself” kits with premium varieties in natural hair colors as well as synthetic, fun colors on their sister site, Spirit Strands.

Their youtube video does a good job of explaining the product.

Balancing: Edwardian hairstyles for ladies…

November 27th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

My sister is a cellist and has recently got involved in a gig that requires her to dress as an Edwardian lady.  Problem:  What to do with her hair? She doesn’t have the waist-length hair that our grandmother and great-grandmothers had to play around with. Most fashionable Edwardian women used their voluminous tresses to do complex updos: GibsonPompadourFinishedBack But most modern women only have hair that touches their shoulders a best, and so it is necessary to come up with an alternate solution.

For those of you who don’t want to wear a wig or go to the trouble of using hair extensions, here are some simple things you can do with your hair to give it that old-fashioned look.

1. If your hair is doesn’t actually touch your shoulders, you will need to grow it out. Try to achieve a length that is at least one inch past your shoulders.

2. For those of you with thick luxuriant tresses that stand up to any kind of treatment, you can skip this part.  However, if you have hard-to-manage silky hair read on.  For this body-challenged hair, there are a couple of things you need to do BEFORE you attempt to style it:

a. After washing and drying it, bend from the waist so that your hair flops towards the floor.  Brush it out by brushing down towards the floor until all the tangles have disappeared.

b. Then straighten and flip the hair up to its usual position, brushing UP to keep the body.

c. If the hair is bone dry by this point, stick your hand under the faucet and gently wet your hair. In this fashion, your hairstyle will not only make you look ladylike, but will also provide you with curly tresses when you take the jaw out!

3. To style, first make your hair into a low ponytail, one that starts from the nape of your neck.

4. Roll the hair into a cushion, but rolling the ends of the hair UNDERNEATH.

5. Check to be sure that you have all the hair in the cushion, then secure with a jaw.

6. Check in the mirror to be sure that your hair neatly covers the back part of your head.

7. If there are any unsightly parts, take a comb and hand mirror, and stand with your back to your vanity mirror so that you can see the unsightly part.  Use the comb to gently neaten your hair so that any unsightly part is covered and your hair has a finished look from the back.  (Of course, 100 years ago, a lady’s maid would have done this job for you.  If you can’t get it right, then don’t be shy about asking someone to help you.)

8. Voila!  DSCF1813.JPG

9. If you don’t want to spend a fortune replacing lost barrettes and hair combs, you are better off with a jaw.  I use jaws because if I don’t get something that actually clamps my hair with a really forceful grip, it will fall out.  That is why I don’t use barrettes, hair combs, cascades or anything like that. I like FrenchLuxe jaws because you can get them in tortoiseshell and other pretty colors.  For the website, click here:

10. Good luck, and please send me your pictures!

Take care of your body skin

November 26th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Usually we take care of our facial skin but many of us neglect the rest of the body due to which the skin tends to become dull and lifeless. Pay some attention to your skin from head to toe and make it glow with a little care.

You can start by exfoliating at least twice a week in the shower with special brush and an exfoliating body gel. This will remove all the dead skin. Move the brush in circular motions all over your body for about ten minutes. Concentrate on the rough spots like elbows and knees. Apply a moisturizing body cream after showering. Use body lotion every day and you will notice, even in harsh winter conditions your skin will remain soft and smooth.

Take good care of your skin and it will glow. An Evening With Carrie Underwood

November 25th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Hair Extension Kits, Hair Extension Style, Hair Extensions, celebrity hairstyle

If you had a chance to watch the Country Music Awards a few weeks ago you could not have missed recording artist Carrie Underwood. Whether it was hosting, winning awards, or performing to a crowd of country music’s elite, Carrie Underwood was everywhere. This is not necessarily new for Carrie who, over the past 4 years, has made a name for herself by selling over 7 million records and overshadowing some of the biggest female voices in the music industry.

Recently, my wife and I had the opportunity to spend an evening with Carrie and attend her concert. We found her to be much more than a superstar; she was actually normal.

Almost 5 years ago, during the fourth season of American Idol, my good friend was able to meet Carrie and subsequently take her out on a few dates. A friendship ensued and they have kept in touch ever since. As a result, my friend has been able to attend several of Carrie’s performances and also hang out with her on occasion. Last week Carrie Underwood’s ‘Carnival Ride’ tour came to our city and my wife and I were fortunate enough to be invited to spend the evening with my friend and Miss Underwood.

During the course of dinner we learned a lot about the music business, fame, tabloids, what its like to be Carrie. However, we were most impressed by her down-to-earth nature, maturity, and confidence despite some of the negativity that undoubtedly swirls around every big-name celebrity. I can’t help but think that some of that confidence comes from her small-town roots, strong family, and of course, it doesn’t hurt to be strikingly beautiful.

Being involved with hair myself, I had to ask Carrie about her experience with hair extensions, her preferences, etc. She lamented that stylists in the industry “literally do not care” about her hair when they are styling, and as a result often cause damage.

If you’re familiar with Carrie you know that perhaps her most recognizable feature is her beautiful long blonde hair, so it is understandable why she would be so weary. She confirmed with me that she does wear extensions often but prefers ‘clip-ins’ because they generally cause less damage to her hair than the fusion/glue-in products. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity tell her about Donna Bella Hair Extensions and how our revolutionary I-Link Bead Method provides full, beautiful hair that is easy to apply and remove without causing any damage. She was very interested, so much so that we are going to send some to try out in the near future.

Some people might read this and think, “Why would he bring up hair extensions when he’s hanging out with one of the biggest stars in music?” That is a good question, but it goes beyond just trying to sell product. Granted, it’s not everyday you get to hang out with Carrie Underwood, but when you have a product as good as Donna Bella that you know can make someone’s life a little easier, sharing it with others comes quite naturally. All I can say is try it for yourself and you’ll see what I was telling Carrie about!

Beyonce Rocks With Extensions at AMAs

Despite an otherwise bland evening at the AMAs (American Music Awards) last night, I was tickled to see Beyonce rocking out with her extensions. Rumor had it she was going to retire the luscious locks after getting married. I for one am glad she decided to keep them in play for a while longer - she wears them well!
