Some big hair art

April 29th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Beauty, Beauty News, Hair & Beauty Shows, Hair News, award show fashion

The International Fantasy Hair Competition, held in Manchester, NH, is about turning hair into art. But as it turns out, this isn’t just a beauty show but a good cause too. All proceeds for the night went to the New Hampshire Food Bank.

Stylists compete to make what look like the most absurd hair hats they can dream up. And the prizes range from $1000 to $7500. But the real work is done perhaps by the models, whom say the main ingredient for them is “Pain. Lots and lots of pain,”. And i guess its understandable. Melody Longobardi, 26, was forced by the 3-foot cherry tree on her head to stand at a 45-degree angle.

Grand prize winner was stylist Kevin Carter for his “Proud Peacock,” which involved actual feathers to look like the bird itself. And the model of his winning creation was Amaris Brown.

Britney’s Hair Ripping Show

April 28th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Hair Extension News

I suppose one never can guess what might happen in the presence of Ms. Spears. Especially when it comes to her hair. And her most recent act was certainly as surprising to her as it was to us.

During her most recent Circus tour stop in Oakland, California the star was laying on a chaise lounge during one song, preparing for the next acrobatic stunt. Her dancer, suspended above, picked her up to come into the air with him. However one of her hair extensions was stuck to the chair she’d been lounging on, ripping the hair out of her head on her way up.

Despite how incredibly painful it must have been, Britney kept her composure.

Lauren Conrad: The most popular Celeb Style

Yahoo! Search Results conclude that the most popular celebrity style for Spring 09 is Lauren Conrad from MTV’s The Hills.

I have loved her long, blonde locks since Laguna Beach: Season One! As a senior in high school, she had long, straight, extremely lightened hair that was perfect for the beach.

Now, as a celebrity and designer, Lauren has gotten rid of the bleach and flat irons and now sports soft waves and a darker blonde.

…and a lot of accessories, too!

Lauren gets her hair done at the Warren Tricomi Salon in Los Angeles. Not only is the show filmed at the salon on more than one occasion, Lauren references it on her Blog.

Although, for The Hills and *some* appearances, she does her hair herself.

I follow Lauren on Twitter and the large picture above was from last week when she was on Letterman, when she did her own hair and make-up.

She tweeted:

Ahhhhh I’m about to start getting ready for Letterman… doing my own hair and makeup. eep! Wish me luck!!

Hogan Hair

April 23rd, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Hair Extension News

When I was little I was terribly afraid of Hulk Hogan. He was what my nightmares consisted of. And when I think about it now, it makes perfect sense. Because 1. I didn’t know he was human. I thought for sure “That’s what Satan must look like.” and 2. I didn’t know his act was fake, or that his show was for entertainment. I thought it was a glimpse, like a news broadcast, of what Satan had recently been up to or whom he’d been beating up.

Now in my later years, and thanks to his reality TV show, I realize he is just a lovable, over-protective, goober of a dad. Who wears neon Speedos and gets hair extensions, yes hair extensions. But the hair thing is a new development. His Ex wife used to color his hair that ever-glowing snow white he is known for. But since they split he had to do it himself, which didn’t go so successfully. Causing what very little hair he had left to fall out of his tan scalp, he has resorted to extensions! Ive heard that he is hoping to have a comeback in his career. If that’s the case perhaps he should have kept the extensions a secret. It’s gonna be hard for him to get his fellow wrestlers to take him and his hair seriously!

Matter of Trust - Cutting hair for a cause

April 20th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Hair Extension News

Earth Week is coming up very quickly. April 20-24th. And this year we are bringing something special to your attention. Are you in need of a hair cut? Because nearly 100 Paul Mitchel Schools across the U.S. are participating in a hair donation for a special cause. Come in to one of these locations and get your hair cut for just $10-$15. Your hair, along with all the other hair they collect, will be donated to a non-profit organization called Matter of Trust.

Matter of Trust uses recycled hair to make products used to soak up spilled oil. They have been doing this for 7 years now and will take human hair of any type. Straight, curly, processed or not. Some of their products include these mats. [picture above] Which were used onshore in San Francisco after the container ship Cosco-Busan collided with a pylon of the Bay Bridge in 2007 and spilled thousands of gallons of bunker fuel. Another product they call “booms,” which are made by stuffing hair clippings into donated nylon stockings and are used to help ring spills into a confined area.

But Matter of Trust doesn’t just want your hair. They are looking for innovative ideas on how to perfect their production processes. Currently they use clothes dryers to matte the hair. There are special machines available, but they are extremely expensive and come with no resources for repairs and replacement parts. So if the machine breaks, its useless. So, if you have special knowledge or possible ideas on hot to matte large quantities of hair, they’d love to hear from you!

Matter of Trust Facts:

  • It takes about a pound of recycled hair to make a hair mat that’s a foot square and half an inch thick.
  • A square foot mat can soak up a quart of oil. And can be rung out and reused 100 times.
  • Each of the Paul Mitchell Schools can yield as much as 5 pounds of hair a day.

Hair styling trends for spring/summer 2009

Medium length hair cut summer 2009 hair trends

Medium length hair cut summer 2009 hair trends

It’s that time again! Bright colors, summer breeze, sandals , halter tops, dresses, you get my drift.

What about your summer hair? We’ll I’ve done a bit of research on the trends for spring/summer 2009. I must say, it really is not that different than 2008.

Hair Cuts:

Short hair : Pob/Rihanna cut… is still going strong just a bit different. ( length + more personalized touches such as soft layers, hard layers, sharp lines and angles.  Instead of wearing the look sleek and polished, pump it up with some curls.  Ask your stylist how to add a touch of sass to the style once your out of his/her chair.

Medium length: This look is easy to manage and also gives you styling versatility. A cut along or a bit below your neckline is one you can find yourself having fun with. With a great curling iron and bobby pins you can turn this look into a real runway look using the pin curl technique.  If you have hot rollers, plug them in and get started.  You can also have long hair in a short time, with a few hair extensions added to the back and sides of your hair for the next look. (long hair) Ask you stylist how to do pin curls that will work great with your hair texture, and for the best method of hair extensions are suitable to your hair and lifestyle.

Long length:

When people have long hair, they send to stick to the same look.  A ponytail back or it is out and straight down. (Boring)  Add some layers, we have hard, and soft.  It depends on your personality. Layers also gives the illusion of volume. All you need to do is use a round brush, curling iron, or hot rollers.  These tools will help kick up the style.  If you are more for the one length look.  Switch it up by trying  to place the ponytail at the side, low in the back, near your occipital bone.  You can make the front smooth and sleek or more loose and tussled. Try it out see which one compliments your face the best.  Try to accessorize with (hair pins, colored ribbon, a broach) be adventurous step out of you box once in a while. If accessories seem like to much for you, then you can always add a bit of character to a simple hair cut with Bangs.  (straight, swept,  choppy,  short, layered) consult your stylist for what style will best suit your face shape.

Scene Hair

April 20th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

A little over a year ago, I was introduced to “scene hair”, or “emo hair”. A MySpace trend. I see the style a lot in younger girls now, and I think it is fun and flashy. Not just for MySpace anymore.

The scene haircuts (that I have done) are about long, thin, pin-straight length, and short, backcombed layers. This can also be done to short/medium length hair, and you can even add extensions, too. For the full effect.

But what fun would this haircut be without some fun color placement?
A lot of girls go all out with their color and do Zebra Stripes, Raccoon Tails, Leopard Spots, Polkadots and outrageous colors. Others just play with Jet Black Color and Bleach. These can also be done with extensions, if you are afraid of commitment and upkeep.

Now, add the biggest sunglasses you can find, a lot of eyeliner and MAC Makeup, and some oversized flowers and bows, and you might just be a Scene Queen. Or they will call you a poser…
