Hair Style: Hair Extensions

April 19th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Ever wish you could have longer hair or even thicker hair than what you have? Well in today’s world, you can now do that without waiting for your hair to grow on its own. This is called hair extensions. This is something that is commonly done for many women to get longer or thicker hair. If you have hair extensions done, make sure to get it done by a professional and as long as you do, they will stay in your hair for up to 3 months. Hair extensions are harmless to your hair. This hairstyle is done by simply applying strands of human hair or synthetic materials that look and feel like hair to your natural hair. The hair extensions are placed on your hair with glue bonding or fusion.

This is again, harmless to your hair. If you decide to take the hair extensions out before they are ready to come out, the professional will simply use an application that will turn the adhesive to a powder and the extensions will simply come right out with no harm done to your natural hair.

Supermodel Horses

April 15th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Hair Extension News

If you think your eyes are playing tricks on you, they’re not. You are in fact looking at horses with glamorous hairdos. And they’ve not been photoshopped either.

Courtesy of Australian advertising photographer Julian Wolkenstein, these photos recently hit the web in full force. To help get the horses camera ready, Wolkenstein enlisted the magical powers of celebrity hairstylist Acacio da Silva.

Neither having worked much with horses in the past, each customer took several hours. And while the horses seemed to enjoy the grooming part, the camera and lights were not as thrilling to them.

When asked about the purpose of this project, Wolkenstein said “It is important to do personal projects just for fun, not to sell anything, but just to remind you why you make images, but mostly, and simply, to make you smile,”

Well it certainly made me smile. But I am wondering if it isn’t silly projects like these that are causing the rise in horse tail thefts in farms across the country!

Haven’t been posting for a while! Since my goooood friends are all heading to camp this week, I’ll be posting missing posts soon I guess! I suddenly felt that I’ve been back in elementary school, learning pronounciation of words. I still have those cards that Ms.Triplet use to give us. My favorite is CK ! WAHAHA! Did I mention why? Cause I’m taking Japanese classes to kill time and now I’m learning AIEUO!Lets hope that when I end my classes in June I can conquer this language! OOOOO! AND I am getting hair extensions! ) Any color up for recommendations? I personally love pink, but I think my mom would kill me. Mdl’s blonde is nice. WOWEEEE I can’t wait!!!

Come back everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m not a believer

These days it seems that every celebrity has come out with a product or two. But Jessica Simpson, shes got a whole list. With everything from clothes to handbags to fragrances and now hair extensions. Offering fans the possibility of obtaining her famous cascade of champagne colored curls.

However it has been said that Jessica’s line of hair is made of Kanekalon Vibralite® mod acrylic fiber, and to those whom do not own their own line of extensions, that is the phony, plastic looking, synthetic hair.

Now, I hate to be the one to state the obvious, but I will anyways. I have never seen Jessica sporting hair that looks anything but expensive and polished down to every curl. In fact it has been said that she often spends up to $2500 dollars on her own head of hair. So it becomes hard for me to believe that she herself would ever wear her own line. And well, if the creator isn’t a believer, then its hard for me to be as well.

Weaves VS Afros

April 5th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

In a recent debate at Queen Mary, University of London, the ACS (Afro-Caribbean Society) took on the issue of natural hair versus weaves and extensions. The debate on the surface may seem superficial, and to some pointless - but actually, it churned out interesting discussions.

Smiles all round at the debate

Expecting a minimal turn-out, I was pleasantly surprised. Nearly 50 people turned up the event, and the organisers put on a good show, with interludes using youtube to get the debate going.

Boys keen to get involved in discussion

I was accompanied by Aulelia, who has her own views on the debate. The interesting points I took from the event was that so many of them referred to men, and the influence that they have on black women’s perception of beauty and self-image.

Many believed that the reasons why women choose to wear a weave is because they prefer straight hair because it is finer and is perceived by others as a sign of beauty. They said that too many negative connotations are associated with keeping a natural style such as an afro. Watch the following link and you will see what I mean.

What was also interesting was some points made about how the style of hair relates back to history. Maintaining a natural hair style such as an afro seems to show a sign of ‘low birth’. This isn’t hard to believe, but the fact that people use it as a reason as to why they wear their hair in a particular style is still staggering. In this day and age, where people have access to all sorts of treatments, colurants, extensions etc. I don’t think that people should have to justify the way that they wear their hair. I know of some people who change their style on a monthly basis. Is this so terrible?

Most people at the event seemed to stress that they don’t really care whether people choose to wear a weave or leave it in a natural style, but as long as it is styled well. If it’s a weave, apparently you shouldn’t be able to tell. If it’s an afro you should maintain it well, combing regularly to keep the shape. But, really - is it that offensive if someone has a ridiculous weave? Does it effect your life? Probably not. Sometimes I do think people have too much time on their hands to have the time to comment on others’ image.

The boys didn’t stay quiet on this topic either. They were ready to get involved on this topic which was good to hear. None really seemed to take a particular stance, I think in fear of infuriating the ladies. Most of them said that they don’t really mind in which style the ladies wear their hair as long as it looks good, and is maintained. Here’s what some of the boys said:

Unhappy Horse Tales

April 3rd, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Hair Extension News, Hair Extensions, Hair Gossip, horse hair extensions

Or should I say a unhappy horse tails? Allow me to explain. Several recent incidents have occurred in farms across the country, which involve thieves lopping off the hair from the horses tails and manes. Strange but true.

Perhaps the weirdest part of all is that the exact reason for such a crime is unknown. Although there are many possible motives. Here are just a few they have come up with:

1. Financial gain: horse show rules allow for hair extensions. and horse hair extensions cost between $150-$600. [same price for human hair extensions done in salons.]

2. Manufacturing: Horse hair is used for a number of different products. Like making belts, hat bands, tail extensions, violin bows. Although for such, the manufacturers usual buy the hair in bulk from china. And it is unlikely they would buy such a small quantity from an individual.

3. Shortage of hair: Many slaughterhouses in the U.S. have been shutdown. Perhaps causing a new demand for horse hair.

You will be happy to know that no horses were hurt during this recent crime spree or during the writing of this article. Unless you think bad hair dos are painful. To read more on these hair thieves please go to the following sites:
