Hair Extensions Help

January 30th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Last time I posted, I talked about waxing. Today, I want to talk about hair extensions. Now I need all my fashionistas to tell me the truth. What’s the deal with these things.

My hair is pretty long (layered and hangs to the bottom of my shoulder blades), but it’s thin. For the last couple of months I’ve been super tempted to get some extensions to thicken my mane up. His is the trouble- I hate fake looking hair. I’m afraid of clip ins because I’m afraid they will come out, and part of me is a little afraid of the other kinds because I hear if they are not taken out correctly that they can cause damage. They say the reason Victoria Beckham has short hair now is because her longer tresses were fake and ruined her real hair. Same thing with Nicole Richie and when she suddenly appeared with a bob cut.

So I am looking to all of yo for advice. Tell me, yah or nay. Worth the money or not worth the money. Tres chic or tres puke?

Today on lunch I bought some randoms .. cupcake linings (pink and purple for our “girls night Sat”) cream cheese (also for cupcakes) dish soap, sweetart hearts, and car fresheners. I was laughing to myself at Kmart because it was such an random assortment of items.

Tonight Joe and Bro are going out to watch the Fly guys play, and my girl LD is putting extensions in my hair, tonight is one of her only nights off from the hair cuttery so I am super grateful for her to do this. Why we are doing this is because I am hiring her to do all my girls in my wedding party’s hair D-day wedding day and I have medium length hair (that doesn’t grow much longer) and I want Carrie Underwood hair on wedding day

I like both pics and I want the top from the top pic and the bottom from the bottom pic  )

Can’t wait for extension trial tonight.. pics laterrrrr

The real hair is accumulated from all over the world and then it is classified for length, natural color and ethnic textures. The several processes before the hair get to its final stage are complicated since the preparation includes to keep the roots with roots and the ends with the ends, making sure that they are never mixed. If this happen the hair will easily tangle and it must be discarded, a considerable economic lost assuming the high cost of the material.

Real human hair has the advantage that the color can be changed, the texture can be altered and  it takes less time and cost to maintain. As the phrase says ” the cheap turns out to be more expensive”.

Other benefit of having real hair extensions are that they are easy to handle, like your own and nothing will never looks more natural than a natural thing.

Has Cheryl Cole Had Collagen Injections?

January 24th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Couldn’t believe these pictures below… Cheryl SURELY can’t have really had Collagen injected into her lips? Can she?!

She’s only 26!! And my god, if theres anyone in the world that would never EVER EVER need any kind of cosmetic surgery… it’s her, right?

Well, her lips look MUCH plumper than usual….oh dear, I’m getting visions of Leslie Ash and her ‘trout pout’.

Cheryl makes it look a lot even more suspicious as she strolls through the airport covering her mouth slightly…

Has she or hasn’t she? And if she has, what do you make of it?

[This Avalanche Will Suffocate You]

January 22nd, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

I’ve noticed that I haven’t blogged in quite a while, but I tend to go through blogging phases based on mood. So what do I have on my mind right now?

BLUE HAIR

I finally got my blue hair extensions after my order came 10 days late! I really like the shade on this one, it’s better than that puke-ish turquoisy-aqua shade. I used to have extensions a long time ago and those ones were a total pain. It was convenient that I could wash my hair with them on and stuff, but had to remove them with special pliers and they would tug on my hair all the time!! Ouch!

So this is what they look like. I was so tempted to take pics of them so decided to take a couple snaps before going off to the mall.

Blue hair!!!

MUSIC

I’m currently so addicted to Placebo! AND Muse hahaha. I always thought that Linkin Park was the awesomest band on Earth, but hey… Muse is better ;) But I should thank Allen for completing the discographies for meeeeeeee!

The song stuck in my mind right now is Julien by Placebo. There’s just something raunchy about that song. I think maybe  it’s the club beat reminiscent of a gay club or it could just be the fact that Brian Molko is singing about a guy (gay sex… yaaaay!).

DORIAN GRAY

For years I have practically evangelised The Picture of Dorian Gray. To me it’s my ‘bible’, so of course when I watched the movie I was totally excited! I must say that the film is beautiful! Stunning cinematography shot in an almost dark, surreal style truly complements the decadence and aestheticism of the Victorian era. Dorian Gray is a movie about immorality so expect a lot of really explicit scenes.

NB: Don’t let little children watch it. And PLEASE don’t watch it with you parents.

*Cringe*

And if you’re a real fan of The Picture of Dorian Gray, I promise you’re going to start trash-talking the film coz… they changed a lot of the story… well added more (it IS a thin book).

ALLEN

He’s going to UCT and I’m going to miss him SO much! I’m currently on a gap year *kicks self*

I’m gonna be so lonely.

I’ll miss both our 18ths.

Our first anniversary.

Valentines Day.

The  Durban July.

EVERYTHING!

I don’t feel like blogging now.

At Last…..Color That Lasts!

January 21st, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Dark. Light. Dark. Red. Blond…YIKES. Let’s see…how many times can your long haired clients change their haircolor before it just says “NO”?

Well, fortunately you can push the envelope somewhat when you use Monkey Barrz to add or subtract color from you client’s hair. And, as we all know so well…getting red to actually stay put in someone’s previously bleach-blond hair is tough, to say the least. Adding some lowlights with high quality hair extensions insures their reds and beautiful browns will be there come next touch-up.
Even short hair can lose all those rich, multi-colors we’ve so painstakingly foiled in…and it’s very frustrating to see the fruits of our labors return completely washed out due to things beyond our control. So, for that client with super fine hair (who might also spend a lot of time outdoors) and just cannot hold color….consider low-lighting with hair extensions and nix the chemical wear and tear.

PS)Thanks for visiting my blog at here at monkeybarrz.wordpress.com and thank you for choosing Monkey Barrz Hair Extension Adhesive direct from the manufacturer. -)

How to Know the Qualification Levels of your Stylist

January 20th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

You can cut friends and family’s hair in the privacy of your own home without a license. However, you can’t legally charge them money for it.  A hair stylist specializes in the art of styling hair, hair extensions, including cutting, chemical services such as relaxers, texturizers, perms, and color, as well as restorative treatments.  To be a qualified hair stylist who can charge for their services must hold a license or particular level of designation based on the location you are in.

In North America each Province/State has their own regulations on who can or cannot practice the art of hair.  Now I have been a stylist in the Western Canadian area for some time now and it baffles me the non-regulated qualification levels between each border.

To work as a stylist in Alberta you have to have a license or hold a certified journeyperson red seal and that involves taking an exam, a stylist may hold an apprentice certificate however may not practice unless under the vision of a Red Seal Stylist. If a stylist holds a non-recognized Canadian credential in an Alberta-designated trade, but can demonstrate skills and experience in an Alberta-designated trade that meets standards set for journeypersons in Alberta they may hold a Qualification Certificate.  If you are questioning your stylists or hair specialist about their qualifications you have the right to ask for their credentials before they apply the service you are paying for.

In order to work in a salon…you have to be a registered apprentice or qualify by the state or province qualification levels. Here is a link to find our what qualifies your stylist to practice the art of hair styling in your province.  This means completing the prescribed course work for cosmetology and passing the state/province board exams.

Here are a few definitions on what to watch and to further understand when shopping for a salon professional or hair extension specialist.

Journeyman

Is a trader or crafter who has completed an apprenticeship.

Red Seal

The Red Seal allows qualified tradespeople to practice their trade in any province or territory without having to write additional examinations, thus improving labor mobility in Canada and saving time and resources by eliminating the need for multiple examinations.

Certification

Certification does not refer legally being able to practice or work in a profession.  It may very well mean the certified individual took a day or weekend course and is now able to demonstrate a certain level of knowledge or ability.  To legally practice a trade depending on state/province you have to hold some form of a license or designation.  Usually in the art of hair, a licensure is administered by a governmental entity for public protection purposes and certification by a professional association.

License

License means to give permission; license may be granted by a party (“licensor”) to another party (“licensee”) as an element of an agreement between those parties.  To obtain a hair dressing license hairstylist typically attends cosmetology school to get their cosmetology certification, and then takes the cosmetology-licensing exam in their state/province to begin their career as a hair designer.

Fellow QVC Vendors Jessica Simpson And Ken Paves Have VH1 Reality Show That Premieres March 15

January 16th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Uncategorized

Will Simpson have another hit like MTV's Newlyweds?

MTV Networks PR team must be taking its cue from QVC’s sleepy group. We are supposed to be getting press releases from MTVN and its networks, including the announcements being made out in Pasadena at the Television Critics Association tour.

We’re not getting squat, so we missed Friday’s TCA news about Jessica Simpson getting a new show, “The Price of Beauty,” on VH1. It debuts March 15 at 10 p.m.

Simpson, whose first appearances selling her handbags and accessories on QVC was a disaster, did a TCA panel with her pervert dad about the new show.

The reality series depicts Simpson and her hair stylist and fellow QVC vendor, Ken Paves, traveling the world to interview women about beauty. He hawks Simpson hair exensions on QVC.

Simpson became a celebrity via an MTV reality show, “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica,” which featured her and her now ex-husband Nick Lachey.

Here is the original full old press release (since we didn’t get any new ones) about Simpson’s new show.

No matter where you are in the world, chances are, you know that Jessica Simpson is no stranger to the spotlight. Her hit pop and country songs, movies, television and eponymous collection of shoes, clothes, bags etc. have helped to keep her in America’s eye, but we all know Jessica for more than just her career achievements. Jessica has been followed, studied and scrutinized since she released her first hit single at the age of 19. Now, Jessica turns the tables on our culture and cultures all over the world to find The Price of Beauty, her new original series on VH1.

The new VH1 docu-series, produced by RDF USA (Wife Swap, Secret Millionaire), takes Jessica all over the world to meet every day women. She may also discover some local pop culture icons on their own quests for beauty along the way. Jessica will study the local fashions, dietary fads and beauty regimes and even participate in some of the extreme practices she discovers.

“When Chris approached me with his idea for a show about true beauty, I was immediately intrigued,” Jessica stated. “I have always believed that beauty comes from within and confidence will always make a woman beautiful, but I know how much pressure some women put on themselves to look perfect. I am really looking forward to discovering how beauty is perceived in different cultures and participating in some of the crazy things people do to feel beautiful. I know we will all learn a lot on this journey and I am so excited that VH1 is coming along on what I’m sure will be a wild ride.”

Chris Coelen, CEO of RDF Media USA, said: “In this series, Jessica will tackle a serious issue with her unique and relatable blend of humor and heart. We’re thrilled to be in business with Jessica, Joe and VH1 on what we know will be an exciting and eye-opening show.”

“Perhaps more than any other pop culture figure on the radar today, Jessica Simpson has been the target of our obsession with beauty on both sides of the equation. She is a woman who can set trends and create firestorms with a single photo,” said Jeff Olde, EVP, VH1 Original Programming & Production. “We could not be more thrilled that Jessica now gets to take control of that conversation and take a look at the idea of beauty through her own unique, unfiltered lens. And we at VH1 are excited to be in the passenger seat next to her as she begins this fantastic journey.”

The Price of Beauty is set to begin shooting in mid July. Executive Producers include Jessica and Joe Simpson as well as Chris Coelen, Claire O’Donohoe and Greg Goldman for RDF USA (Wife Swap, Secret Millionaire). The show will be produced by Jeff Olde, Jill Holmes, Alex Demyanenko and Sean Boyle for VH1 to air in 2010.
