Still muddling through a hairy situation

February 3rd, 2010 Posted in Uncategorized

Ok, so I am still undecided about the whole extension thing. It’s weird, because recently, two people just came up to me randomly and commented on how long my hair had got. Being me, I thought, ‘Maybe this is a sign not to get extensions.’ However, I remember feeling torn in the same way over dying my hair back in the day and I do have to say, for the most part, I liked the highlights and all (it was going 100% blonde that wrecked my tresses). Styling your hair can be really addictive. You get hooked to the pampering aspect of it and the more glamorous version of you. Still, there is the aftermath to think about and that is the damaged hair.

What is my solution??

I get my hair done at this place in Astoria, Queens called Patricia’s.

I go there to get what they call a “Brazilian blow-out’ or a BKT treatment. It’s pretty much when they put keratin through-out your hair, which helps to make it strong and seal the ends, but it also helps to unfrizz your hair. I swear you all, if you are a slave to your styling tools, this is the treatment for you. I use to have to blow out my hair AND flat iron it, and now I just use the flat iron, and often just a little on the roots. I have also just allowed my hair to dry and it has ended up beautifully- wavy but not frizzy or uncombed looked. It cost me about $250, plus $50 additional dollars for shampoo and conditioner ($25 bucks a piece; a worth it investment because it’s filled with keratin), but in the end $300 is 100% worth it! My hair went from looking fried and dead to super shiny, healthy and long.

When I go to get my BKT treatment, I will ask for a free consultation in regards to the extensions. I am particularly curious about the extensions they call the “integration” extensions, because they say they are perfect for the active person (moi). Anyway, I don’t know- it’s a lot to think about. I don’t want to damage my hair, but I also don’t want to sit on the side lines all my life while beauty treatments pass me by. Maybe I’ll just get those clip in ones, but as I wrote before, those things can be ripped out and look so cheap! If I am fortunate, the keratin treatment will go so well that I will see that I don’t need to do squat to it, and maybe I’ll just experiment with more styling tools – hot rollers and whatnot as ms Clarabelle suggested;)

Tomorrow is my birthday. I turn 27. Whoa.
